Especulaciones sobre la tumba real Jelling marca en la Alta Edad Media danesa el momento en el que conviven la tradición pagana y el futuro cristianismo. Testimonio de ello son una iglesia, dos enormes túmulos, dos piedras rúnicas y fragmentos de una piedra conmemorativa no trabajada.
